All Day Games with Friends Sometimes there’s nothing better than sitting at a table with friends (or meeting new ones) and enjoying a board game. We’ll have some old favorites and maybe some new ones that everyone can sit down and enjoy together. High Noon Superhero Costume Contest Show off your cape and tights at our annual parade of heroes. Categories include “Best Original Costume” and “Most Likely to Save the Day” 1 PM Kid Kitchen with Chef on Demand Join Chef on Demand as we explore some fresh flavors of local harvest! Chef Cliff Richard will offer his expert culinary knowledge and free samples of recipes using fun foods you can find growing right here in Maine! Dare to investigate farm fresh goodness and all the ways you can taste summer at home! While supplies last! 2 PM May the 4th Be With You Celebrate Star Wars Day at Kid Central Festival with arts & crafts activities. Learn to make Origami Yoda and more with ART2-D-2’s Guide to Folding and Doodling. May the 4th finger puppets and puzzles, too! Wearing anything from your favorite Star Wars shirt to full-on Stormtrooper gear is completely acceptable. (It’s okay to dress up your pet, too. Bounty hunter bulldogs are especially encouraged.) Prizes and giveaways while supplies last.
10 AM – Noon Yesteryear Activities with Maine Forest & Logging Museum Join volunteers from Leonard’s Mills as they step out of the past into the present with Grace Hoops, Tin Punching and more! 10 AM – Noon Musical Shakers with American Folk Festival Family Circle Your family makes the American Folk Festival happen every August on the Bangor Waterfront. Now there’s a new way you and your family can participate in the Festival: Family Circle! Find out how you can help the Festival thrive for every child while the kids enjoy creating something to make their own music. 10 AM Face Painting with the Bangor Y What are you going to wear on your face at Kid Central Festival? 10 – 11 AM Zeke Meeks & the Putrid Puppet Pals The Briar Patch Meet local cartoonist Josh Alves, the illustrator of the Zeke Meeks chapter book series, and make your very own “Putrid Puppet Pal” 10 AM Make-Your-Own Cannoli Bar Giacomo’s Participants will be provided with all the tools and ingredients to make their own snack. Ages 4 and up. 10 AM Bubble Gum Blowing Contest The Charles Inn Are you Bangor’s Best Bubble Gum Blower? Come try your skill at blowing the biggest, smallest and oddest shaped bubbles and a chance to win a prize. Fun for all ages. Bubble gum available or bring your own special formula. 10 AM – 5 PM Capture the Flag Bangor Museum and History Center Celebrate the opening of the new exhibit, Bullets and Bandages, at the Hill House (159 Union Street) and Make Your Own Regimental Flag. 10 AM – Noon A Star is Born Penobscot Theatre at the Bangor Opera House Your kids are the stars at Penobscot Theatre where kids can dress up for an actor’s photo shoot. Don’t miss the Magician’s Show too! 10:30 AM – 1 PM Endangered Species Bangor Public Library Staff from NOAA Fisheries Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will provide a variety of family-oriented activities and art projects to highlight the recovery of endangered species in Maine. Children’s activities will include crafting endangered species masks and wind socks, salmon migration games and storytelling. The library’s children’s department will also feature a collection of books about endangered species. 11:00 AM Flower Planting Central Street Farmhouse Join us to plant your own sunflower to take home and watch grow! Ages 2 – 6. While supplies last! 11 AM – 3 PM Shark Fossils! The Rock and Art Shop Dig, identify and take home real 65 million-year-old shark fossils. Adult supervision required. 11 AM – 4 PM Art Factory University of Maine Museum of Art Various creation stations will be set up for kids of all ages to enjoy. Stations will include simple printmaking, card making, collage and more. Children can create art to take home or give as gifts for Mother’s/Father’s Day. Families can also explore the galleries with a fun scavenger hunt! Art Factory is generously sponsored by WBRC Architects/Engineers. All supplies are free and instruction will be provided throughout the day. 11:30 AM – Noon & 12:30 – 1:00 PM Get Your Groove On Robinson Ballet Fun, energetic dance classes led by Stevie Dunham, Associate Artistic Director of Robinson Ballet. No experience necessary. Ages 6 – 13. Noon – 2 PM Felting for Kids One Lupine Fiber Arts Come and learn how to wet felt beads of many colors, shapes and sizes to make jewelry, decorations or anything you can imagine. Ages 5 and up. Noon Soda POP! Central Street Farmhouse Come learn how to make your own soda at this fun and free workshop! From choosing ingredients to bottling and capping, we’ll cover it all. Participants will also be able to take a bottle home with them. Ages 5 and up. While supplies last! Noon & 1 PM First Steps in Music The Briar Patch Judy Fricke of Main Street Music Studios will offer a session of First Steps in Music for infants – preschoolers. Noon – 3 PM Tie-Dyeing – with Charily Michaud from Mainely Tie Dyes Metropolitan Soul Bring your own garment to tie dye. (A limited number of blank t-shirts will be available to purchase.)
